Wire harness and cable assembly buyers in Canada work with a mix of domestic manufacturers and larger suppliers based elsewhere that serve the Canadian market. The right partner depends on your certifications, volume, and where you need the harness physically built. This guide does not rank suppliers. It sets out what to check and gives the same facts for each company so you can compare them yourself.
What should I check before shortlisting a wire harness manufacturer for Canada?
Use these criteria for every company in this guide:
- Quality system: which certifications the company publishes, and at which sites.
- Where the harness is built: the company’s own stated locations, including whether it has a Canadian facility or serves Canada from elsewhere.
- Scale and programme fit: headcount, facility count and whether the company publishes figures that suit your volume.
- Product scope: what the company says it manufactures, and for which industries.
- Engineering and prototype support: whether the company publishes design-support or prototype-to-production capability.
Figures below come from each company’s own website unless marked otherwise. Anything a company did not publish is left out, not estimated.
Which wire harness manufacturers serve Canadian buyers?
The five companies are listed in alphabetical order. Order does not indicate quality or preference.
AQ Wiring Systems Canada
- Founded: not stated on the parent AQ Group’s own site in this check. AQ Group’s wiring-systems page describes “a long and successful history of cable harness manufacturing,” formed from predecessor businesses TVAB, KA Wiking, AQ Komponent and Durapart Industries, but gives no founding date for the Canadian site specifically.
- Locations: AQ Group’s own wiring-systems page lists a Canadian production facility in Montreal, Quebec. The group’s corporate office is in VästerÃ¥s, Sweden, with wiring-systems production sites in Sweden, Poland (two), Lithuania, Mexico, China, India, Canada and the USA.
- Scale (company-stated, group-wide, not Canada-specific): approximately 2,600 employees and annual sales of 120 MEUR across the Wiring Systems business area.
- Certifications (company-stated): not published on the AQ Group wiring-systems pages checked in this pass.
- Engineering/design support: AQ Group’s wiring-systems division pages (for other AQ sites) describe early-stage customer design support, product development/design-for-manufacture, and production-process engineering as standard divisional offerings.
Trade-offs:
- Strength: part of a larger European wiring-harness group with a stated Canadian production site and a documented divisional design-support offering.
- Limit: AQ Group’s own site does not publish certifications or a founding year for the Canadian operation, and it names a different Canadian city (Montreal) than the current live page used to — ask the company directly which address and certifications apply to the facility that would build your harness.
Avalon Technologies
- Founded: not stated exactly on avalontec.com in this check. The site states “25+ Years of Manufacturing” but no founding year.
- Locations: “16 US / India Facilities” and “615K+ Sq. Ft” of manufacturing space. The site’s certification labels also name specific sites for specific certificates: Bangalore (ESD Association 20.20-certified PCBA) and Atlanta (ISO 13485:2016-certified medical device PCBA).
- Scale (company-stated): “3.7K+” global service staff; “25+” years of manufacturing; describes its production model as “High-Mix, Flexible-Volume Production.”
- Certifications (company-stated): ISO 9001:2015 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 27001:2022 (information security), ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health and safety), ESD Association 20.20. Industry-specific: IATF 16949 for automotive-certified cables and PCBA; ISO 13485:2016 for medical-device PCBA; a railway certification labelled “ECWRV” / EN 15085.
- Focus: a diversified electronics manufacturing services (EMS) partner. Its own site names Industrial (automation and power electronics), Automotive, Rail (described as “advanced control and signalling electronics”), Semiconductor Equipment, Clean Energy (electric vehicles, hydrogen, solar), Telecom/Communication (5G, satellite, digital infrastructure) and Healthcare/Medical as named verticals, each with its own descriptive text on the homepage. Cable and wire harness manufacturing is listed as one of its core services alongside PCB assembly, sheet metal, machining, plastics and magnetics.
Trade-offs:
- Strength: a broad, named set of non-niche verticals (industrial, automotive, rail, clean energy, telecom, medical) each with its own quality certification, across 16 US/India facilities.
- Limit: no Canadian facility is stated on its own site, and it does not give an exact founding year or a facility-by-facility certification breakdown on the pages checked — ask which of its 16 US/India sites, and which certificate, would actually cover a Canada-bound harness.
Cloom Tech (Hebei Cloom Electronic Technology Co., Ltd)
Cloom Tech is one of the five companies in this guide. Its facts below use the company’s confirmed reference data.
- Founded: 2017.
- Locations: Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China (headquarters and plant, 5,000 m² facility); Cavite, Philippines (plant, near Manila); Medley, Florida, USA (office).
- Scale (company-stated): 1,000+ cumulative clients since 2017.
- Certifications (company-stated): ISO 9001; IATF 16949 (valid to August 2029); ISO 13485 (medical wire-harness production); IPC/WHMA-A-620E CIS (operator and inspector qualification).
- Focus: custom OEM wire harnesses and cable assemblies built to customer specifications; Cloom Tech does not sell standalone connectors and does not sell standard or pre-built cables/harnesses — it manufactures custom assemblies only, and offers consultation and professional recommendations rather than a design service.
Trade-offs:
- Strength: a valid IATF 16949 certificate and a stated 5,000 m² facility.
- Limit: Cloom Tech builds in China and the Philippines and has a US office, with no Canadian facility, so confirm what that means for lead time, duties and customs when shipping into Canada.
Lear Corporation
- Founded: lear.com’s own “Company” page states “over 100 years of experience” but does not give an exact founding year on the pages checked in this pass.
- Scale (company-stated): 164,300 employees globally, 258 facilities, 36 countries.
- Locations/Canada: lear.com links to a Canada-specific Modern Slavery Act report, confirming Lear has Canadian operations, but the pages checked in this pass do not name a specific Canadian facility address.
- Product focus: Seating division and an E-Systems division; the E-Systems division’s wire-harness/connection-systems content could not be directly verified in this pass.
- Certifications (company-stated): not published as a company-wide list on the lear.com pages checked in this pass.
Trade-offs:
- Strength: very large global footprint and a confirmed (if unspecified) Canadian operating presence.
- Limit: lear.com does not name which Canadian facility would build your harness or what it holds in certifications — ask Lear directly for the specific plant and its current certificate.
SEWS Canada Ltd. (Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems)
- Parent history: Sumitomo Electric Industries’ own history page states the company’s roots go back to April 1897 with the Sumitomo Copper Rolling Works, growing out of electric wire and cable manufacturing. This is a parent-conglomerate history, not a SEWS-specific or Canada-specific founding date.
- Locations: the North American SEWS site states its headquarters as Farmington Hills, Michigan, and does not list a Canadian facility on the pages checked in this pass. A Canadian entity, “SEWS Canada Ltd.,” appears in third-party trade and job-listing records with an address in Bolton, Ontario — this is not confirmed on the North American SEWS site itself.
- Products (company-stated): wiring harnesses, electronics, electrified-vehicle related products, components and electric wire.
- Certifications (company-stated): not published on the North American SEWS site as of this check.
Trade-offs:
- Strength: part of a very large, long-established global wiring-harness manufacturer (Sumitomo Electric Industries, founded 1897 per the parent’s own site).
- Limit: neither a Canada-specific nor a North American SEWS web property in this check publishes certifications or confirms a Canadian facility address — ask for the specific plant and certificate that would serve a Canadian order.
How do I choose between these suppliers?
- Confirm the actual build location. Several of these companies’ own sites don’t name the specific facility that would produce your harness — get the plant address in writing before you commit.
- Match certifications to your buyer. If you supply OEMs or Tier 1s, ask for the current certificate for the specific site that will build your harness, not a group-wide claim.
- Ask what “serves Canada” means in practice. Some of these companies have no Canadian manufacturing site at all; factor in customs, duties and freight lead time if your harness would ship in from outside Canada.
- Test prototype speed. Send the same drawing to two or three suppliers and compare lead times and questions.
- Check fit with your volume. Large multinational suppliers and smaller regional shops serve different programmes.
